I wish I could give Abilities more than 5 stars!
My son was diagnosed with autism a little over five years ago. We were instructed to immediately place him in speech therapy to at least attend to his most severe issues first. We knew nothing, only that our child desperately needed help. From the second I called Abilities until now, we have been treated with the utmost respect. They have helped us every step of the way. Their therapists are some of the best- you have the option to watch your child and listen in therapy via a two-way mirror. After each session, your therapist takes the time to explain what they did and how your child did. As of now, our son does speech, occupational, and feeding therapy over 4 days a week. Even our youngest, who we felt needed a bit of help, is in occupational therapy. If we ever had an issue with our insurance (which, we’ve learned, is inevitable) their administrative team was quick to help us fix it. Even when our routine therapists have to miss a session, they find another to fill in so that it will not ruin your child’s routine. Our child’s progress is slow, but it has always been incredibly steady. They have beautifully walked the line between allowing our son to go at his pace, and pushing him as hard as he can take. They believe in these kids and their success. Along the way, we have grown to love everyone at this wonderful clinic; they have become our family. The families that we have met, who are in the same boat as us, have become our families. They become your community, your village that you never realized you needed. As a parent, especially to an individual with more specialized needs, there is a constant, nagging, small voice telling you that maybe you aren’t doing enough, that your child may not be in the best possible place for what he needs. I don’t get that feeling when thinking about our therapy clinic. It is a terrifying thing, realizing that your child needs help, but Abilities makes it a little less scary.
