Job Description :

Pediatric occupational therapists at Abilities provide rehabilitative services to children with mental, emotional, physical, or developmental impairments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Implements and administers therapy programs to restore and enhance performance using selected activities and special equipment
  • Performs evaluations to determine the client's functioning level
  • Develops individualized intervention plans
  • Selects and implements therapeutic interventions to enhance client performance in developmental areas, based on the intervention plan
  • Modifies the environment as needed, based on the intervention plan
  • Monitors client's progress through observation and consultation with other professionals to determine the effect of intervention and need for continuation, modification, or termination of services
  • Reviews outcomes and modifies intervention programs
  • Documents occupational therapy intervention services and maintains administrative records in accordance with state guidelines, clinic policy, and reimbursement standards
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to communicate client progress
  • Maintains inventory of therapeutic equipment and projects for budget planning
  • Maintains, organizes, and prioritizes workload and treatment environments including inventories
  • Uses professional literature to make informed practice decisions
  • Uses good time management skills
  • Develops constructive and cooperative working relationship with supervisor and other staff, and maintains those relationships over time
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence based practice
  • Preferred knowledge in Sensory Integration theory and practices
  • Knowledge of human development throughout the life span, specifically 0-21 years
  • Ability to articulate the role of the occupational therapy in the evaluation, intervention planning, and intervention process
  • Ability to analyze tasks relative to areas of occupation, performance skills, activity demands, contexts, and client factors to implement the intervention plan
  • Ability to recognize occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, client role/interactive skills, processing skills, play, community integration/work, and written communication
  • Ability to articulate the influence of socio-cultural, socioeconomic and diversity factors on student occupational performance
  • General knowledge of the federal, state, local legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures that mandate and affect private pediatric occupational therapy services
  • Skill in gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklists, histories, and interviews
  • Ability to select, adapt, and sequence relevant occupations and purposeful activities that support intervention goals
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and progress notes
  • Willingness to be educated and trained for specific program implementation
  • Initiative, strong work ethic, and the ability to positively interact and collaborate in a team environment
Required training and experience:
  • Successful completion and graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy program recognized by NBCOT and completion of all fieldwork requirements
  • One year of experience as an occupational therapy in pediatrics or field experience in pediatric setting
  • Experience working with children , preferably children with special needs Special Requirements
  • Initial certification as an occupational therapist by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current Louisiana license as a certified occupational therapist by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
