Interactive Metronome

The Interactive Metronome® (IM) is a computer-based program developed to directly improve the processing abilities that affect attention, motor planning, and sequencing. At Abilities, we have three certified IM Providers on staff. The therapists have undergone additional continuing education and training to offer this cutting-edge therapeutic modality to our clients. Abilities was the first clinic in Louisiana to offer the IM program.

Attention, learning, and problem solving depend on the capacity to plan and sequence actions and ideas. IM training helps individuals improve their ability to focus, attend, and concentrate for extended periods of time.

Benefits:
More than a decade of clinical research on IM has demonstrated that gains in motor planning and sequencing lead to improvements in:

  • Attention and concentration
  • Language processing
  • Behavior (aggression and impulsivity)
  • Motor control and coordination
  • Academic performance

Candidates:
IM is a therapeutic tool used in conjunction with traditional occupational or speech-language therapy. IM can be used for children as young as 7 and adults who struggle to focus, attend, and concentrate. Common Diagnoses include:

  • Sensory Processing Disorder
  • ADD/ADHD
  • Dyspraxia
  • Asperger Syndrome
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Speech-Language Delays

Requirements:
A simple evaluation is required. The length and number of IM sessions is determined by the therapist, based on results of the evaluation and the client’s functional areas of difficulty. IM sessions range in length from 30 minutes to one hour.
