The Interactive Metronome (IM) is a computer-based program developed directly to improve the processing abilities that affect attention, motor planning, and sequencing.Attention, learning, and problem-solving depend on the capacity to plan and sequence actions and ideas. At Abilities, we know that IM training helps individuals improve their ability to focus, attend, and concentrate for extended periods of time.
More than a decade of clinical research on IM has demonstrated that gains in motor planning and sequencing lead to improvements in the following:attention and concentration, language processing, behavior (aggression and impulsivity), motor control and coordination, academic performance, and reading.
At Abilities, IM is used as a therapeutic tool in conjunction with traditional occupational or speech-language therapy. IM can be used for children as young as seven and adults who struggle to focus, attend, and concentrate. A simple evaluation is required. The length and number of IM sessions is determined by our certified therapists, based on results of the evaluation and the client’s functional areas of difficulty. At Abilities, we offer IM sessions range in length from thirty minutes to one hour.
Common diagnoses of those who may benefit from the use of IM include the following:
