Rhyme Tyme
Let’s Get Ready To Read
One Rhyme At A Time!!!
Ages 3-5
A fun filled group using music, games arts and crafts, and reading to explore sounds and increase your child’s phonological awareness skills.
Lacie M. Robichaux, CCC-SLP
Phonological awareness is important because it is a basis for reading. By engaging in word play, children learn to recognize patterns among words and use this knowledge to read and build words.
Did you know???
- Children notice characteristics of spoken language long before they enter school.
- Sound awareness begins developing during the preschool years.
- Phonological awareness is the knowledge that all words are made up of individual sounds.
- They begin to hear that some words rhyme, that words make up sentences, that some words start with the same letter, and that words have parts called syllables.
- When children begin to understand these things, they are increasing their phonological awareness-the ability to hear and work with the sounds of spoken language.
- Research shows that a child’s ability to learn to read depends on the strength of his/her phonological awareness skills.
At the completion of this group, your child will:
- Have a better understanding of sounds/words
- Be able to discriminate between and produce rhyming words
