Handwriting Without Tears ®

Our Occupational Therapists have attended continuing education courses to administer the Handwriting Without Tears ® program. This unique program is for children in Pre-K through high school ages. The program uses a developmental approach and builds upon skills as they are learned. The program is delivered in a fun, multi-sensory format as part of your child’s occupational therapy program. The children learn to use posture and balance, control and movement, perception and memory, and coordination correctly, to develop good handwriting habits from the very beginning. Home exercises are provided to ensure carryover of your child’s progress.

The Handwriting Without Tears ® program is especially useful in reducing the number of reversals, promoting adequate sizing and spacing of letters and numbers, and stressing the quality of written work versus the quantity of written work. Workbooks are designed for all levels of writing, from beginning strokes of Pre-K children to advanced cursive for children in grades 5 and up.

The purpose of Handwriting Without Tears ®:

• To teach children handwriting techniques that will make handwriting an automatic and natural skill. Children who know how to write, want to write!
• It is a fun method of teaching handwriting that truly takes away the tears!
• Children of all abilities are successful with handwriting when using Handwriting Without Tears ®.
